You can ignore the input frequency. That's the frequency that the mobiles and portables transmit on. They are retransmitted from a more powerful station (or at least one in a better location) on the output frequency.

You might get more response in the future by putting a subject in other than 'question'. In this case, I might have chosen 'Input frequency?'

This has been asked several times.

The input is the freq. the radio transmits to the repeater. The output is the freq. coming out of the repeater. Obviously they can't be the same or it would throw itself into a continuous loop and hear nothing but its own signal.

Generally you want to program in the output. Otherwise the scanner could stop on the input freq. which is much lower in power and signal level causing you to miss traffic.

However as the input frequency is usually comming from the officers patrol cars its a nice to put those inpus in a seperate bank and if you get hits then you know the officers are close.

Kinda a simple range finder deal.

I use that once in a while as where I ive is ahigh crime area I get to hear the police often.

Wel I did til they went ful time Digital.
