• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

12db you don't think there is anything wrong with removing parts of what someone says when you quote them.

Notice how Slowcharger removes parts and pieces of what a person posts when he quotes.

Breaking down each and every sentence into a quote, which is fine.

By the way I have 3 friends now, slowcharger since it seems it matters to you!

You don't make 8 friends in 2 years by calling people names and insults. You make friends by upsetting people and posting stuff people hate.

And I got the best endorsement one could ask for... From ZZ0468 themselves...

It's good to know that people find my participation useless and "tasteless".

Just having fun with quoting, LOL

Let me get this straight. It's not the quality of your posts, and the usefulness of the info within, but the number of people who have 'liked' you on your facespace page (that few people even bother to ever look at, let alone use) that determines your worth here??!

I too was hoping that, based on the title, this thread was going to have some worthwhile content in it, but as per usual, the spazzes of RR filled it chest-deep with sewage.

My county will be going to a 700 MHz radio system in the near future. We operate on vhf hi-band at the moment and the powers that be are convinced that vhf is obsolete.
Is 700 MHz a reliable system?
And what is the cost of the equipment?

Thanks

Since you mention 700Mhz, I can only assume they will be going to a DTRS.

Public safety Systems today are very reliable, notice I do not mention Band. That is because Band does not determine systems equipment reliability. Today's systems have many redundancy features.

I cannot answer why the have chosen 700 over VHF.
A couple of reasons may be frequency availability, nearby systems on 7/800, repeater frequency 30mhz spacing.

Also just incase you (OP) did not know, most if not all 800mhz radio's today also operate in the 700mhz band.

As far as cost, that is tough for anyone to answer, there are to many variables.

Some agencies may chose to interface into a another mastersite and would shed some of the costs associated with the master site. The site equipment itself is much cheaper than a master site equipment.

An example would be interfacing with a stste wide system, you get the benefit of staying up to date, (in most cases). Cost savings.
And you can chose what ever band you want, the mastersite does not give a crap about frequency. If state is 7/800 and you want to stay VHF due terrain or just because you love dat dere VHF band. You can do that and have direct interop with the state to boot. As long as you and the state have overlapping coverage in your area.
