questions about a system

my county uses this system:
Motorola Type II SmartNet Analog/Digital/Encrypted Trunked
can you tell me the diffrence between this and a p-25 or is the same?
do i need a digtal scanner to pick this up?

If the WHOLE system is encrypted, no scanner will pick it up. However, if only some parts of the system is encrypted, i.e. not the whole system, then you will need a digital scanner.

Just remember, no scanner can pick up encrypted.

If the system has any analog talkgroups, then it is not P25 trunking. You should set it up as Motorola Type II and let the scanner deal with demodulating the analog and digital groups.

thanks guys thats what i did.. no the only thing thats encrypted is some of the law enfrocement channels. which i dont listen to anyways.

even if i could , i`m not interested in the police channels. only fire and medical. you do have choice only 5 percent of the channels the police use here are encrypted the rest you can pick up but for what. its all dispatched through there computers all you here is when they are on scene and in service or running id checks.. kinda boring.
