Hello.

It is I, your favorite always grouchy due to severe chronic pain poster. But no grouchiness today, I just have some questions.

First, how do I assign quick keys? Not the favorite list ones, the ... um ... the ones where you push one of the number buttons and turn the radio on? Been so long I don't even remember what they are called. Start up, maybe?

How do I assign these in ARC536PRO?

Is there a way to connect the Virtual Control by way of WIFI? All I see are USB ports. You'd think since this software was exclusive to the x36 line, they would add WIFI? Am I missing something?

EDIT: One more question. If I import NXDN in directly from RR and it has the LCN, is that programmed as well, or do I need to run the locator? I have been scanning for NXDN and I have not heard anything. But I don't know if it is because I do not have LCN or because they are not transmitting.

TIA...

The phrase you want is "startup key".

ProScan makes it fairly easy to do remote control and recording via WiFi. If ARC doesn't support a Wi-Fi connection, you should probably switch.

If the RR data already has the LCNs, you don't need to do anything else. But if they are blank or zeroes, you will need to run LCN finder before scanning the system will work.

Thank you for this info. Yes I have Proscan because I could not find any wifi on ARC. I have no regrets. I just wondered if somehow I missed something and it was there.

I will have to presume the NXDN is not transmitting or I am out of range. I will take the 436 out at some point. Maybe then I will hear it.

How do I program start up keys in ARC536PRO? There must be a way, but I can't find it?

You may have to use Sentinel. Most third-party software can't edit scanner profile settings (which is where startup keys are located IIRC), only favorite lists.

K I found it.

I tried doing a search for START UP and got nowhere. But when I looked for STARTUP then I found it.

Way, way down at the end of the ARC536PRO manual. Page 54 out of 55.

Click on READ DATA and then DOUBLE CLICK on the list. Then you can edit all kinds of parameters, including start up and quick key and other things.

K I must still be missing something.

When you use the startup keys to select your lists, you cannot use the quick keys to add to them after you start. In fact, if you use the startup, you cannot ever add period. You have to go back into the software (or the menu) and re turn on all the lists so they are available for selecting. This makes the startup keys worse than worthless.

Or am I missing something? Please tell me I am missing something.

I think the idea is to start the scanner, and select the specific stuff to hear in the same motion.

I don't think it is meant to have you change your selections after you turn it on. Never use them myself. I want to select as I go. It starts up with what I selected last.

I never use startup keys because I don't find them all that useful. I don't even use quick keys, except to toggle favorite lists. I mainly use GPS and service types to choose what stuff in a favorite list gets scanned.

That's kinda how I am thinking.

I think I may have to give up on the whole startup idea. It is so poorly implemented that it just has no value at all. At least not to me.

I don't really understand why they did it that way? Seems to me they could have made this a lot more user friendly. I don't understand why they decided not to.

I think the idea was to have different configurations selectable by rebooting, but that is more hassle than it's worth IMO.

It wouldn't be, if you could or subtract after you boot. You have a place to start and then go from there. This feature would have all kinds of value if you could change it after you booted. I don't get why they did it this way. It really makes no sense.

ARC536PRO does not support Wifi, just use USB.
To program startup keys, use the read or write data window and double click on a file, now you can set/edit startup keys.
If there is a LCN shown that data will be sent to scanner.

USB supports remote control, but not audio recording. Not supporting Wi-Fi is a serious omission IMO.

More than serious. I deeply regret purchasing the professional version. It was a serious mistake. How they can think it is okay to leave the wifi out is as much a mystery as why Uniden programmed the startup keys the way they did.

Research is key.

There are many ways to interpret this.

I am interpreting it (unless you tell me otherwise) that I should have researched that it did not have wifi.

I knew that. I just figured they would be adding it. It was a logical assumption. The wifi is such a salient part of the scanner that I figured they could not possibly continue to ignore it.

Clearly I was wrong.

You can update some of the profile settings in ARC536 when you select the 'Write Command". A window pops up that allows you to select FL, write FL tag, select which Start Up keys the FL is affiliated with, and also which System keys are active within the FL. You can also chose if you want the system to be monitored or not, and if location control is used. Why it was done this way, I'm sure Gommert can explain.

Version 2.0 was a major improvement over 1.x.

You can indeed, despite what someone has written here, go into the menu system and edit the settings I've listed above. The menus are not particularly intuitive and it took me quite a while to find the settings, but I was able to do it more than once when I made mistakes using the afore mentioned configuration pop up.

It would be nice to be able to use the VC feature within ARC536Pro via WiFi. I don't know if that's not possible due to Uniden or Butel.
