To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Questions about Emergency mode NX-5200/5700's

Hi all, I am a member of a fire department that utilizes numerous Kenwood radio models (Nx200/700/5200/5700's) and I have a some questions related to programming of emergency mode on the 5200's specifically.
Some background:

-We are a non-trunked analog VHF system with conventional simplex and repeater channels
-We are experimenting between MDC-1200 and Fleetsync signalling but haven't decided which to go with yet. (MDC appears to be the way to go for interoperability)
-We want to enable emergency mode using MDC-1200 signalling and have been semi successful thus far.
-We want the emergency data packet to be sent to all radios and set off an alert tone (successful - enabled Emergency Alarm)

I'm trying to understand the behaviour exhibited currently by our radios, currently when the emergency button is pushed, the subject radio will enter emergency mode and transmit the MDC-1200 data, the other radios receive this packet and set off their assigned emergency tones. This continues multiple times until the subject radio says acknowledgement failed. It then opens the transmit on the subject radio for the prescribed 20-30 seconds.

My questions are:
1. what is the procedure to acknowledge an emergency using another radio? Is there a specific function I need to have programmed?
2. How do I get the emergency alarm sequence to stop on the other radios. Currently, the alert tones keep playing until the subject radio doesn't receive an acknowledgement. This is very troubling considering our goal is to have the hot mic enabled as quick as possible.

Can anyone shed some light on this? What settings do I need to have in place to make this work as requested? Or are my expectations not in line with how emergency mode operates?

Any help is appreciated!

Turn off emergency alarm, the radio in emergency mode won't do ack failed, and the other radios will only do the emergency tone 1 time.

Thanks - When I turn that function off, there are no tones on the other radios, just the emergency message on the display and the background tone from the subject radio. Is there another setting I need to change to have the other radios audibly alert? The 1440/770 warble really gets everyone's attention.

What I was hoping to have is the following scenario:

1 User hits Emergency Button
2 Alert tone warble on other radios
3 User hot mic for 20-30 seconds

Is this a possible scenario?

Go to MDC1200 settings and make sure alert tone for emergency is set correctly. Also make sure in the emergency settings that it is sending an MDC1200 packet. Options should be none, dtmf, or fleetsync/mdc1200. Idk when but soon I'll get a screenshot of the emergency page set up how you want it so you can just copy it

I'll triple check the settings when I get home.

Make sure this is what the options under personal features are set to. All my experience is with my NX300/210 regarding emergency so I'm trying my best to apply it the 5k line

Thanks, I'm still having some issues but believe I'm closer to resolution. I have the Nx-5200's down to 2 rotations of tones then open mic. The NX200's we have in stock are a different story, but I like a challenge. I appreciate the help.
