Me Too, LOL!

Gentlemen,

I'm down in Shreveport, LA and don't have a digital scanner, but mine does trunk the 800 mhz "channels". I'd like to know, if there are any Arkansas Fire/Police/Ems units that still are "active" on low-band FM AND on vhf hi-band (150-174 mcs), as well. I know, most have moved to AWIN, but I'm sure there are some smaller communities still on low band or vhf.

I'm a long-time ham radio operator and NOAA trained Skywarn Storm Spotter. I'd like to know to possibly "monitor" vhf low-band (30-50 mcs.), vhf hi-band (150-174 mcs) and uhf low-band (406-512 mcs) when there are storms moving in from the Northwest (Mena, AR to Greenville, TX line) and from the Southwest (College Station, TX to Lafayette, LA line).

In hearing these stations, I then could "relay" the storm conditions on to others and 2 meter FM repeaters. Hopefully, this would give stations a "heads up" as to approaching storms and allow them a greater time to prepare to save lives and property. ;)

Thanks in advance,

Respectfully,
73,

There are a bunch of active licenses for the old low band frequencies. Go here and search :

Radio Service = PW
State = Arkansas
Frequency Upper Band >= 30
Frequency Assigned <= 40

There's 104 of them.....see file attached.

I live in Cross Co. and I have the low band frequencies in my scan rotation and hear nothing on them. Crittenden Co. is the same way.

I have a BC 350C sitting around gathering dust. I may put it to use scanning the VHF lo segment to see what is out there - if any.

I have a ham repeater list for AR - I think - holler at me if ya need / want it.......

Good luck.

"Thanks"....

Morning All,

"Thanks" Bubba for the "list". I've copied the ones down I knew were in the "Circle" from my local NOAA Wx office map. As I understand it, the "map" out some 230km is no longer in print. I don't know how well it will "copy", so I'll have to check with the guys out at the NOAA Station on 6 December, National Skywarn Recognition Day" to see if it could be re-done.

Yep, I use the F.C.C. Database a lot to look up agencies. The only "wrinkle" in that is that when an agency "abandons" a frequency to move, probably to 800 mhz, they don't bother in turning in the license for cancellation. That leaves it to "expire" at the end of the license run. This is not good for scanner folks, but it keeps other agencies from applying for that 'available' frequency until the license is available. :-( Same thing happens on the ham repeater allocations. Repeater owners are SUPPOSED to inform the local frequency coordinator, when a repeater is taken down, moved, sold, or ceases operation. This is the right thing to do and shows consideration for others. However, this is not always the case.

Well, off to the F.C.C. database to look up what I copied.

Blessings,
