I have a couple questions if ya'll don't mind:

1. Will DPL ever become more popular than PL?
2. What's the leader in public safety comms?
3. Will P25 become the national stanard for public safety?
4. Why did my dept. pick the freq and dcs tone they did? 488.025 023! thats tone one! thats not secure...

What's wrong with that tone? Why is the fact that it's the "first" tone make it not secure? It will do the exact same job as any of the other available DCS tones, assuming there are no nearby users on the same frequency and are using the same tone, which seems unlikely.

1. Since many SNFM systems are picking new tones/codes, it's very likely, but not a certainty.

2. Yep - Motorola. If you mean PL/DPL, It's probably still PL since many systems predate widespread adoption of DPL. (many older design radios didn't support DPL)

3. Who knows. They may come out with P34 next year.

4. It's as secure as any other tone. Maybe they figured that everyone else was thinking the way you are, and thought it was the LEAST likely to be used elsewhere. Of the newer systems in my area, many are using 023 and 025.
