[Questions] Homebrewed Off-Center Fed Dipole

On the design, it is suggested to use PVC end caps. Any reason if I was using copper tubing that I couldn't use actual coper caps and braze them on correctly?

If I use copper, why do I need to paint it? Copper weathers just fine outside.

Can someone give me a novice explanation on why this is a good design?

There should not be a big difference in performance if you use the copper caps. Try the antenna with the caps not permanently installed and see how it works.If it is fine go ahead and sweat them on.
