Hi have been do all the researching that I can on what's going on here in central Arkansas. I live in Lonoke county. I have not been involved in scanner listening in some time now other than just the local so and vfd. I would like to listen to asp and other things as well. I will be traveling between Lonoke and Wynne and Wynne and Helena. I am considering the new bcd396t but would like to know what to expect on programming? I would like to know what all extra equipment that will be required to program this scanner. Thanks for all the help and if you would rather just drop me a email at k5wc at AOL.com

No special equipment will be needed at all. The BCD396T comes with the programming cable and the programming software will be a free download from the Uniden website....hopefully early next week. I can't wait to get my hands on mine.....actually it's in the UPS depot in LR right now waiting to be delivered on Tuesday. Living in Lonoke, you'll need the 396 very soon since Lonoke county is one of the pilot counties in the AWIN system and pretty much everything will be jumping on that P25 digital system in the next 6 months or so.

Hello you guys! Yep the BCD396T is the way to go. Not sure about Troop A but Troops I, L, B, and D are already fully P25 digital. Troops E and F will be going digital "Mid July" As of right now Troop A is still analog. No mention when they'll be changing over but all changeover is to be completed by January 2006.

All you need to program the scanner is your two hands  , but if you want to use the software (the best way) just use your PC and supplied accessories already mentioned.

Also, just an FYI: Little Rock PS is rumored to go fully digital in the near future. Also Jefferson County is to go to the digital systems. I am sure that lots of agencies will be jumping on board with AWIN in the future. That is why AWIN was created, to give statewide interoperability.

The BCD396T also offers the fire tone out feature you could use on your local VFD's or municipal FD's. Also has Mil Air you could use around Jacksonville AFB up there.

You guys are invited to join my Scanning Arkansas Yahoo Group linked below. I have all of the AWIN digital freqs as well as others throughout AR. There are also the freqs listed here in the rrdatabase that is always good info. We discuss the info and systems in and around AR. Please check us out.

EDIT: I have posted all of my .mem files (ARC246 software files) on the yahoo group for Arkansas, every county and all Trunked systems. I will be posting all of my .usd (Uniden's Software files) as soon as I get my BCD396T in sometime next week. Sooo, all you have to do is join the group, go to the files section and you can just use the files there download to you computer then install to your scanner. You can edit the settings and such but most of the frequencies will be put into files for you. All you have to do is download them.
