Looking for opinions/facts on these terms and uses. I know every place does everything differently, but maybe many are just doing it wrong.
"Dispatch" vs. "Paging" vs. "Operations" (Channels)
.....in my opinion so far....
Paging (channel) is the act of physically paging agencies (tones, addresses, etc.)
Dispatch is the en route, 10-23, 10-8, etc.
Operations - ??
(yes, DISPATCHING an ambulance could mean Paging it, but I think this is the fine line between the terms)
I'm trying to make sure channels are properly labeled (in ScanIL/RadioReference.com). I think many agencies say it's a dispatch ONLY channel, but in reality its being used for paging only. Then fireground, etc, local ops, is done on another channel.
Operations I am assuming may mean field ops for just any OPS, but is it like "tactical" or ??
"Talkaround"
Talkaround to me would be NOT using the repeater, but using the output of the repeater as a mobile only frequency, but usually is using the same CTCSS, so the dispatcher can hear and know not to talk.
Direct can mean the same thing OR just 2 units talking directly to each other and not through a dispatcher (whether repeater or not)
Car-to-Car/Unit-to-Unit/Tactical
Basically the same thing, different terms.
"1st Page/2nd Page"
Both Madison & Macoupin County 911 page the initial page "twice" (in immediate succession of the first page) An additional page will be done after 5 minutes if there has been no response yet.
Question.... during the first 2 pages (done at the same time), should the second page be called "Second Page" as if it were the "Re-page" of the call? or should it still just be the first page. If the dispatch center has to page again after 5 minutes (or more) should that not actually be called the "Second page"?
FCC Call signs
I think the rule is Public Safety agencies must announce their call signs every 30 minutes. But some only do it EVERY TIME they page and never any other time during dispatching.
I like to hear the call signs so you know which agency is paging. I love how many are using expired call signs or the wrong call sign on the wrong frequency. (and of course how many are using frequencies on bases they have no license for)
Calling (basic communication)
If "Dispatch" is trying to get a hold of "Car-5"....
Should it be "Dispatch, Car 5" or "Car 5, Dispatch"
Then when the answer, should they be saying "Car 5, go ahead" or "go ahead Dispatch"
"Authority"
It an agency is paging or sending out a dispatch, they may say "Authority Madison County 911", etc. at the end of the page.
Thy state Police does it all the time on ISPERN broadcasts. They will always saying AUTHORITY and then the agency from where the call came from (another ISP district, sheriff's department, local PD, etc.)... (or "National Weather Service, St. Louis Missouri" on a weather page) (Macoupin County SD has always followed this procedure too)
Thing is around here, Madison County 911 always says authority "Madison County 911". I know many time the actual call came into a local PSAP (like Glen Carbon PD or Alton PD" or from Macoupin County 911, should they not being saying "Authority Macoupin County 911"???
