• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Greetings,

Hope this message finds you well.

Last week, I purchased a pair of UNIDEN GMR4055-2CKHS, and I have a few questions. Please redirect me to the correct board if this is not the right one.
  1. do you recommend leaving the radios on the docking charger when not in use?
  2. included batteries are rechargeable 650 mAh: could the use of rechargeable batt with higher power-factor typical 2100 mAh or 2400 mAh help in any way clarity/transmission/distance/battery duration? in other words: does the battery power-factor helps or affect performance of the device in any way?
  3. do you have any recommendation for a handheld mic/speaker with PTT button (1 pin, shoulder-clipped type)?
  4. I also own Bearcat-BC75XLT that I can program via PC: any equivalent software to control GMR4055-2CKHS settings?
  5. do you know where I could find the PDF version of the instruction leaflet?
Best regards,
Oliver

Greetings,

Last week, I purchased a pair of UNIDEN GMR4055-2CKHS, and I have a few questions. Please redirect me to the correct board if this is not the right one.

do you recommend leaving the radios on the docking charger when not in use?

No, this is usually detrimental to the battery lifespan. Charge them up and then remove from the charger. If you don't use them for a while, turn them on and run the battery down and charge them again. These are not 'smart chargers', so they just keep trickling power into the battery. Not usually a good thing.

Will not impact clarity, transmission or distance. Will improve battery duration.

do you have any recommendation for a handheld mic/speaker with PTT button (1 pin, shoulder-clipped type)?

No. I can tell you to avoid the Motorola branded single pin mics. I bought one of those for my son many years ago. Always sounded like crap, and failed after a few days.

I also own Bearcat-BC75XLT that I can program via PC: any equivalent software to control GMR4055-2CKHS settings?

No. FCC regulations won't let you change anything that isn't already controllable from the front panel. For ease of setup, it would be nice, but it doesn't appear to be an option.

do you know where I could find the PDF version of the instruction leaflet?

I will add: Remove the battery from the radio when not using, or storing the radio.
