Questions Re Modes, Please ?

Hello,

Please put up with a few very basic monitoring questions.

I have a Scanner, but would (also) like to pick up comms with
a good sw radio I also have (Icom R8600).

I realize air to airport tower, and Tracon, are regular AM. (true ?)

But, what modes are used for:

Unicom
ATIS
CTAF

Any others also I should be asking for ?

Go to Google and write Aviation frequencies. You will get a wealth of information.

BOBRR, AM for everything you listed. Why would you knowingly listen to an ATIS? Ok, ok but only if its Art Bell's voice.

Use the database on the forum for frequencies in your state to get you started. I put my R8600 on approach frequency to listen to incoming planes.

I heard Art on the 40 meter amateur band one night. It was awesome.
