I'm planning on flying into Logan on the 8th and then later drive to Boxborough later that day and then staying near the harbor in Boston on the following Friday before heading back home.

Any suggestions on what to listen to on the scanner? I'm planning on only bringing a BC396. I'm mainly interested in police, some EMS/Fire (if something is going on) and interesting Fed. comms. Thanks.

You can download frequencies directly from the database here, seeing that you are a premium subscriber. You can also check the software files section at www.scancapecod.us to see if there are some ready to use files for the area(s) you will be visiting. I would recommend the State Police TRS system using Zone 5, and possibly Zone 8 (?) for when you are out towards Boxboro area. Other people may be better versed in that area than I am. Boston Police/Fire for when you are in and around the Boston area. When heading up towards Boxboro you will want some frequencies from Middlesex County and maybe some Essex County as well. Suffolk County would cover the Metro Boston area also.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. That helps. I was aware of the direct download. I was in the middle of downloading them into ARC396 Pro and realized there was a lot to get. I didn't want a bunch of stuff I didn't need or want loaded. Thanks again.

Just got back from five days in Boston. Fire 1-5 are all active. Channel 4 test alot of fire boxes on the week-end. EMS 9-12 were active, and Police channel 2 is for downtown area. Put Zone 5 in the radio also. Listened to the H,E, and F Troops. Enjoy your trip! We did. Even took in a game at Fenway and got a nice ticket for the 456 sellout.

I've got a whole Win500 file full of just about every Eastern MA frequency and trunking system you'd need.

If you want, I can try to convert it all--at least the conventional frequencies--to an Excel file and send to you. Just PM me if interested.

I find that on a trip to Boston, I end up monitoring Med 10 (462.975) for EMS dispatch on my main radio, and having a secondary scanner on Fire 1-5 (483.16250 483.18750 483.21250 483.23750 453.65000 ). PD is nice to hear, but there is so much routine stuff, I prefer to hear the emergency calls.
