The last thread was killed by some off topic blabbering that I contributed to. I thought I would start one that said...

Donate now so there is money left over to throw a party when it is all over with and all these great features we are waiting on are in place.

Now a few honest questions...

Does the Staff read and respond to emails or are we better off voiceing our wishes online in public? (I have sent emails that were not responded to. One included a decent sized donation)

Is the database going to include fields for LAT/LON of the center of Mass of a Metro area?

I realize that there will be a link to the FCC database. How close is this going to be to the Percon DB? (I subscribe. I am betting my $$$ will be better spent here)

Will it include the LAT/LON of the transmiter? (I ask this because of the new GPS based features will key more on the center of mass than the transmitter location)

Who are the DB Admins? Can we help? Arizona is weak on info. Can we start a WIKI on information pertaining to areas and states?

Thanks

Is "Donate now so there is money left over to throw a party" a joke?

Any emails where you include a donation, must be being made via PayPal?? If that is the case, it does not go to the "staff" but directly to the LLC Headquarters -- read Lindsay. If you email the Webmaster, that is Lindsay. Have you PM'd or emailed some other "staff" that didn't respond, it seems you and I have traded PM's in the past.

In order:
  • I don't think so.
  • I have no idea, the last time I used Percon was before I discovered Lindsay in the mid-90's
  • Some already do, some don't, and at the moment they are not all formated the same, but they all should have links to the FCC DB (as you pointed out) and the FCC data (including LAT/LON) is downloaded periodically.
Hope this answers your qeustions. :)

Was it a joke? :D You tell me

Thanks for the link to the Moderators page.

What I found is that (with tons of respect to Dan!) the DB admin of seems to be a conflict of interest. I "push" Dan's Book for all new and old scannists alike all the time and even in my SIG. I swear that I was not aware of the fact that he is the DB admin. The weak comment that I made is now understandable.

As I know of no one that knows more about Scanning Arizona than Dan there is no one more qualified that Dan. The conflict is that there is much more information out there that is of interest to scannists that does not make it to the RR DB. This would seem to serve the publisher more and point more people to the book rather than the RR website.

I quote myself from another site (before I knew today that Dan is the DB admin)...

"No offense to Dan and I hope his efforts remain profitable but I feel
much of what could be put up on the site is not there in order to sell
books. I think that the frequencies need to go up on RR. What Dan adds
to it is the multiplier. Without much of his additional information
the frequencies alone would be like watching TV with the sound turned
off."

I will always have the "Arizona Scanner Bible" with me. I will continue to update as new books come out. But to be fair could you choose a new DB admin for Arizona?

I will have to give kudos to someone, I submitted changes to the DB the other day and was informed that there were 159 entries ahead of mine. Less than 2 days later it was updated. Great Job!

I think if there was any $$ that spilled voer from donations, put all the DONATING members names into a pot, and draw for a prize. Like a scanner or a sweet antenna or something...

Prizes are good incentives.... I'd donate... Thinking about ti anyway..

It was a joke... All the money that goes for the site runs the site. And some is donated to the Feed the Freqs campaign highlighted by all those late nite commercials :)

No party. Just cool features. We will all party by ourselves :)

Donate. The more you donate the better you feel! The more we all get when we start this deal!
