Hi all!

I'm using a UBC3500XLT (european model) handscanner and have my System quick keys programmed so I can lock/unlock systems based on location. Now I'm reading the manual about Group quick keys and it's not very clear...

If I have 3 systems (with quick keys A, B and C ans an example) and each system has 3 groups (with quick keys 1, 2 and 3) how do the group quick keys function?

Scanning all 3 systems and all 3 groups I get A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3. Now I lock group quick key 1 while holding on system A, does it get locked in all groups (A1, B1 and C1) or only A1?

What I'd like to do is define the kind of usage (police, fire, county, etcetera) in group quick keys, so I can switch them on and off globally. Then I have a filter on location (systems) and usage (groups). But this will only work if group quick keys switch on/off in all systems...

Not familiar with your radio, but generally in an analog system (city, county, shire, etc.), you can create groups that may differ by function, i.e, police, fire, emergency medical. Alternately, you can combine functional units by location.

The same holds for trunked systems where coverage is over a broad area. You can create 'clusters' of talk groups by location or function, however you want.

This allows you to switch units on and off within a single system. An example might be where there is a big fire but you are listening to police and fire in the area. All of the action is concentrated in the fire group so you switch off the police group.

Elsinga,

I am not that familiar with the specific radio, but I'll try to answer your question on what is locked out and what is left open. But if the concept is similar to that used in the Uniden 246 and 396 this should be the answer (or close to it).

If you have your three primary systems A, B, and C you can then subdivide those systems into specific user defined groups.

So under each system you can have a group 1 for say police, 2 for say fire and three for school buses.

Now if you (and this is based on how the 246 and 396 work) if you are scanning system A and don't want to listen to police and fire, for that system, you would press the Func key then the 1 and 2. These two groups would then be locked out for System A, but not on any others.

So you would still hear B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, and C3.

Rather simply the groups are a method to further subdivide your systems. Where I live my county has a multiple use system (two counties [sharing the system], two cities, a private community and a university). I have the system frequencies as A (not an option per se on the 396) and then each user into groups.

Hope this helped clarify things a bit.

quick keys

Hi,
The quick keys are useful for sub-dividing a system. For example if your monitoring a Trunk Radio system
you can break up the various agenices talkgroups(Fleetmaps). In my case I monitor the provincal
trunk system. By using the quick keys I've the Ambulance on QK1, Fire on QK2, Provincal QK3,
Police QK4 etc.... When monitoring convential systems you can again set it up to sub-divide services.

With the 996 while scanning the system, I'd press the VFO knob and while the F(function) icon is
displayed push Quick key 2 to turn off the Fire Talkgroups. To reactive the Fire Talkgroups
I'd repeat the steps.
