You mean NFM? Narrow FM. There's Wideband FM for transmissions from FM radio stations, TV stations and wireless mics and such.

Alternate spelling

I have found several references to FM-N meaning Frequency Modulation Narrow as opposed to FM-W Frequency Modulation Wide.

Probably some engineer's idea of complicating the simple term Narrow FM.

I believe Yupiteru scanners used FMN as a short form instead of NFM. Could be wrong, however...it's been years since I owned a Yupiteru.

Sounds like NFM, which would be the narrower bandwidth voice (2.5kHz deviation,
11-12.5kHz bandwidth) versus the "standard" narrowband FM (5kHz deviation, 16kHz
bandwidth), but not directly in relation to WBFM (or WFM) which is broadcast.
