Got bored at home. Antennas are down temporarily so I jumped in the car, parked on the street, right in downtown Milwaukee just up the street from the tallest building in Wisconsin with my IC706mkIIg and 40 meter Workman Hamstick. Kind of a mini DXpedition with WIFI access! LOL Very little noise surpisingly.

Simply a 25 minute band scan of the 49 meter band.

6000khz R. Havana Cuba 0300z English VG S9+20
6010khz R. Sweden 0300z G in English S9
6020khz V. of Vietnam 0300z VG in Vietnamese NEW! S9+20db from Vietnam??
6030khz R. Marti Greenville, SC USA G in Spanish S9
6040khz Vatican Radio from the Vatican G in English S7
6055khz R. Ext. de Espana, Spain E in Spanish S9+30db
6060khz R. Havana Cuba E in Spanish S9+20db
6075khz Deutche Welle from Portugal or Engand (?) VG in German S9
6090khz Caribbean Beacon Anguilla Exc. in English S9+20db
6110khz R. Havana Cuba G in Spanish // 6060khz but not on NASWA database
6120khz ?? in English not on NASWA db, sounds like Trans World Radio. Fair in QRM of another station in Spanish (not on DB)

That's it, getting cold in the car and engine noise just kills the DX. Heading back home. 73 from on the road.

Well, I stuck around for the Ident on 6120khz at 0330z but the two stations (one in English, one in Spanish) simply mixed together and I got nothing. As I drove off the Spanish station dominated then both were gone. I do think that was TWR in Swaziland though. Lastly, is that really Vietnam _from_ Vietnam on 6020khz? Seems way too loud for that band and that time of day. Cuba relay? Anyway, fun little excursion for a weekday night.

Also, a lot of asian countries seem to have relays in Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what you were hearing...

Quite true; VoV did, at one time (maybe still does) has a relay agreement with RCI/Sackville. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

k9rzz, you might want to consider putting something like a low noise wire loop in your attic for the times, like now, when your other antennas are down. Granted it won't work nearly as well as an outdoor antenna, but you will have something to fall back on. With the winter season right around the corner, the car isn't going to be a comfortable place to DX from....73 Mike
