• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking into setting up a dispatch system that uses Motorola's two-tone paging (QC2) system in conjunction with several HT1000's and minitor 5's. Oddly, the problem I'm having so far is locating a simplistic "base" station configuration to page these radios (and pagers). The motorola website was less than helpful in explaining the functionality of their newest mobile/base radios, and frankly I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on a cutting-edge base station configuration.

Here is what I'm looking for:
I need a "base" station radio that can generate the quick call II "two tone" tones necessary to page these radios/pagers. There is no need to differentiate between groups of radios nor will there be any circumstances where we will need to "page some but not others". Either page everyone or no one. I need a configuration where the dispatcher can push ONE button to send out the quik call 2 "paging tones" and then transmit whatever voice message they need to. As I've stated before, I'm not looking to blow a ton of money on a cutting edge radio. I am fine settling for an older radio (that possibly even uses an encoder interface) as long as it can get the paging job done with one button push. I haven't been in radio circles long enough to know about Motorola's past setups. Does something simplistic like this exist?

The issue is not the transmitter -- you can use any transmitter to transmit QC tones -- but the controller. GaiTronics makes a desk set TRC that can be programmed to send QC tones, and Zetron makes a number of dispatch consoles that can do the same thing.

Assuming the HT1000's and Min 5's you already have, and they are on conventional vhf or uhf. You could obtain a used Radius Mobile, either GM300 or Maxtrac, which contain a nifty paging system already, and just require the proper programming. It would not be one button press, but is pretty simple to operate.

Personally I would just use a CDM1250..you can just program one of the buttons to bring you to the radio call menu and just select set you want to page and just key the mic...
