It’s quite common to overhear sporadic HF voice traffic in rural areas in both states mostly unlicensed. After 35 years in AK we used HF to communicate between cabins homesteads in the winter and summer mostly low power 20 watts or less. With most areas no cell service, so efficient comms. Not legal of course, but since it was relatively remote no interference issues, plus, frequencies used were outside amateur bands. Up in the backcountry as they call it here in Idaho it’s a bit less common but used. No set freqs as mentioned. And pretty routine comms.
