I recently purchased an R2500 radio. The main receiver works great, but I don’t seem to be receiving anything on the sub-band. I’ve checked the balance, volume, squelch and attenuator settings and they seem fine.
Is there anything I’m missing?

As I recall the R2500 actually has two separate receivers in it and one is better than the other.

The two receivers use different antenna inputs. Have you switched the coaxes between them to see that the antenna are working?

You get noise when you open up the squelch in both FM and AM? Then the IF are working but the RF input part might have blown from someone transmitting nearby to the antenna that where connected to the 2:nd antenna port.

Are you using the control head?

And the dumb question but did you go into the Set menu from the control head and make sure the item SUb--On is displayed and not SUb--OF.
If SUb--OF is displayed, no frequency will show up for the sub receiver on the control head.

If you don't have the control head, the model is a PCR2500 and with the control head, the model is the IC-R2500.
The Icom software should control both receivers functions without the control head regardless if the 2500 was purchased as a PCR2500 or R2500 model.
The Sub band does not have full coverage. It only covers 50 to 1300 MHz. Some modes may also be missing from the Sub band. It should not let you tune the frequencies outside its allowed range but will tune modes that may not be available.

Do you get white noise when adjusting the sub band volume when you open the squelch when set to an analog mode?

Set both bands to a known steady signal such as a local NOAA WX frequency. See if both bands show signal.

First, I want to thank you all for your responses. They were timely, unlike this post (on going health issues) and I apologize. Yes Ubbe, that was exactly the situation. Had a bad splitter and when I connected the antenna directly, it worked fine.
Thank you all.
