R30 R30 antenna jack failures

Just got off the phone with Icom. Need to send it in. Will send it to Michigan since its closer. Told me I can send it to them in washington if I want to. Ever deal with the folks in michigan?

Yes, Michigan repair was great. 8 days fixed and back in my hands.

The SMA jack broke loose from the circuit board.

That is interesting you say that Greg. I have just sent mine to Icom Australia for what appears to be the same issue. Did they provide any feedback around the cause?

No they did not. I was experimenting with a dozen or so antennas, so it's possible I did it.

I always wondered if extending the factory whip by pulling just the top will weaken the insides. I don't do that btw, doesn't feel right.

Mine is the "go everywhere" airband receiver for me, so it has plenty of antenna changes. I was also wondering if that may have been the reason it failed.
