• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I have a ht1250+Ls UHF and I'm getting ready to send it to be programed or a xst-3000, I'm getting the frequencies lined out to channels on paper. I have more than little to no idea about UHF compatibility to radio models.
So there are pl, dpl and ran tones on some of the frequencies, never seen 5 RAN before so will these tones work with those radios or do I need to further upgrade.

Welcome to the forums. This would be indicative of NXDN which a ht1250 does not decode. What's your use case?

No offense, but it’s obvious you are new to radios. Take your radio to the person responsible for programming it, usually the licensee or system administrator.

I don’t get it. Over the years I’ve noticed so many threads regarding the same situation: Person XXX has been tasked by YYY agency to use non user-friendly software to program critically important public safety radios, and turning to strangers on a public forum for answers…I just don’t see that happening and don’t believe that.
If you wanted to stay employed, follow the official procedure and take it to the right person. Got the gist of what you’re saying (I think), normal grammar/punctuation makes it easier for people to understand you 👍

The problem is many people think it's no big deal to be programming/configuring subscribers for agency use. They are ignorant of things like OSHA, liability, etc. and most don't care. It's all good, until it isn't. That's when the "a-ha so that's what that grumpy dude on the forum was talking about" sinks in.

Agreed: if a radio is used for life safey/IDLH, like any other equipment, only competent, authorized personnel need to touch it. For hobbyist use, who cares. But if it's for part 90, it needs to be done by someone who actually knows.
