In October, 1938, the RCMP concluded an agreement with radio station CKCK in Regina for the broadcast of police bulletins. They were aired twice-daily and reported such information as stolen cars, missing or wanted persons, and escaped prisoners. As the majority of police vehicles and detachments were not initially equipped with radio, members of the Force arranged to visit various establishments such as farms, restaurants, and service stations, that possessed receivers. To assist the RCMP, the public was also requested to listen to the broadcasts.

No such luck in Vancouver... The Police here dont like to tell us much.

Do they still do this regularly out that way?

Oh hell no! If you didn't have a scanner, the only way you knew if police were looking for anything was if you caught a crimestopper episode at the 6 O'clock news.

We have so many stolen cars here in Regina, they would have to designate a station broadcasting bulletins 24/7. In any given year in the past 10 years, we have had 3,000 to 5,000 stolen vehicles a year. We only have a population of 200,000!

Here is a good link on how to have a good time in Regina if you ever happen to come.

Nowadays the RCMP are still on VHF repeater, but conduct most of their dispatches through laptop. The only time you hear them verbally is when something is in progress like high speed chases and drunk drivers.

The Regina City Police are 100% encrypted from CPIC to dispatches. They went through a lot of expense to taxpayers to do that, and crime is still rising out of control.
