Radio cross-reference list?

Does anyone know of a cross-reference list for the ever increasing number of cheap, mostly Chinese, HTs?

It is obvious that many of these are exactly the same but with different names or model numbers. In fact, on most of them the "name" is actually on a small plastic piece that is glued into a slight depression on the radio.

Knowing which radios were the same would be a big help in seeking out bargains, or finding programming software or cables.

For example, it looks like the "Motorola" MT-777 is the same radio as the Puxing PX-777 and the PX-2r sure looks a lot like the TYT TH-2R.

Any thoughts?

When they look alike and have the same number after the name, it's usually a save bet they are the same radio.

I agree, generally. But, there are several that look very much alike, like the NKT-R3, RT-26v, PX-2R and TH-2H, where it is not clear if they are all the same or not. If the radios have been registered with the FCC (Part-90 or Part-95) then the registration number is helpful. Unfortunately most of these radios are un-registered (ham use only).

Start a sheet on google docs and share it?

Here's a couple to be going on with
TYT MD-380 = Retevis RT3
BFDX BF-TD505 = Connect Systems CS-580

There are varying degrees of similarity though. Zastone DM900 is very similar to MD-380 but has a different case. Connect Systems may have their own firmware for the CS-580 which differs to the BFDX stock firmware. I don't envy the person who has to keep this list up to date!

Your comment on degrees of similarity is also well taken. Maybe there should be a few options
• Identical in all respects
• Functionally identical, but may differ cosmetically
• Operationally identical but PC programming differs
• Similar, though not identical, but can share all accessories.
