We are trying to get our local dept. to switch over to an encryption system. I see it every day those who are up to no good, and those that are trouble makers on the block using this using thier scanners to thwart anyone who reports a problem and then getting away with a slap on the wrist because they know the police are coming.

If it were just about loud low boys there would be no need for the police, but then again even loud low boys need to have a cop knocking them on the head to have some common sence enter thier pea brain every once in a while. So, no matter how things go down, when it escalates to the need for the police to answer a call thier is no need for anyone to know the calvary is on the way. Police need ENCRYPTED radio systems...PERIOD!

You must be kidding, at a time where cops are being militarised and beating and killing innocent people you want them to have encrypted coms!?

Try going over to a county or another agency newer system the newer ones have the capabilities of using encryption, or have your agency just buy newer radios with add on encryp

And as for police being militarized, killinf og innocents..... - I think there is a Urban Legend forum someplace on the web for you not here

I understand your side better than you think and think you correct up to a point.
first, those kind of morons aren't tolerated here and will be eracated post haste if found lurking here.

If you guys have a specific group of numbnuts you are looking to roust. Dispatch those calls on your cell phones or maybe your dept/town has a couple of little used frequencies you can borrow and make them car-to-car Tac channels. my town will ask a unit to call the desk when they don't want it over the air or between units on cells to keep a surviellance units position quiet.

Most depts only need fully encrypted radio for specific operations. The overwelming majority of the scanning public helps by knowing whats happening and provide needed information

Certain areas think there invincible, nypd, the california ones, I wouldn't let them have tin cans on a string much less encryption.

Oh hey heres something you missed The Militarization of American Police - And Shredding of Our Constitutional Rights - Started 30 Years Ago
Radley Balko: SWAT Raids, Stun Guns, And Pepper Spray: Why The Government Is Ramping Up The Use Of Force

Keep in mind here, the trust level fades as a police department hides in secrecy.

Didnt Signal 1 start by responding to a thread that had finished up several years earlier? Where did the earlier thread go? And wouldnt complete encryption completely kill this website?

Why? To make it easier for them to impinge upon my civil rights? Thats a very scary thought.....They can't act in a vacuum, there needs to be accountability.

Full disclosure statement: Some of my best friends are cops and my daughter's stepfather and godfather are cops.

Don - when was the last time anybody- you, heard the Police doing something to impinge on your civil rights, stomp on the public for no reason, so you know some police - do they sit around and tell how they might impinge on the public trust....must be some interesting conversations when you all get together for a BBQ
time to move the tread to Urban Legends

Hey Don, find me a cop who knows what kind of system they are talking on and I will show you a liar. Besides, if they did know they were speaking in the clear, they would just use cell phones to impinge on your civil rights.
