Basically the idea is that each radio has a unique ID on that system. The GRE scanners can track that ID and alert you when it is active.

So in other words, you could program your scanner to turn on the RED LED every time the Fire Truck in your area is on the air. Our Beep when a Supervisor uses their radio.

It is kind of neat. I have a few IDs programed in mine and like having that feature.

I tried playing with this, but could not get the radio id alert to override the talk group alert.

example I have the TG alert to show blue LED, but I wanted a radio id that uses that TG to flash RED. I would see the radio id text that I assigned, but the LED was blue for the TG

Is the feature turned on in the Advanced Settings?

Press PGM
Press FUNC
Press F3 (GLOB)
Press FUNC
Press Down Arrow (Moves you to the bottom of the menu)
Press Up Arrow 3 times (You should be at the RadioIDAlert Setting.
Set that to Yes by using the Right or left arrow if it isn't already.
Press F1 (Save)
Press Scan

See if that resolves it. If you're using software, that option should be available there as well to be set.

Edit: Note also that IIRC, this will only work while in Scan Mode, not in Manual or Pause mode.

I am using software, and I did have enabled. What it looked to me like was the TG alert has a higher priority than the Radio ID alert

Hello Kel,

This link may help you.

http://www.radioreference.com/forums/gre-scanners/108858-radio-ids-posting-guidelines.html

To turn on radio ID & Alert, press PROG>FUNC>F3.

Now scroll down to Show Radio ID: (Select yes)and for
Radio ID Alert, yes again and save and your all set!
Good luck!
If I am interpreting this right, you have to have the radio set to show radio IDs in order to be able to use radio ID alert, correct? I don't want it showing all radio IDs, but would like for it to alert on a few radio IDs that I have programmed in. Is this not possible?

Okay, just answered my own question. It seems it is necessary to have radio ID enabled in order for RID alert to work. Also, I found that this is pretty much a useless feature, because the scanner will only display the radio ID of the first radio to initiate a group call. For example, if radio 1 calls radio 2, and and radio 2 immediately responds without the talkgroup timing out, the scanner never displays radio 2's ID number, only radio 1's ID number. So if radio 2 never initiates a group call and the talkgroup never times out before radio 2 responds to somebody else's call, you never see the radio ID or get an alert for radio 2.

Guess I'll stick with Unitrunker for radio ID decoding. There's no way the scanner has enough memory capacity in one file to store all the aliased radio ID's I have in my UT database anyway.
