I am throwing this out in the air so that we can maybe see a feature that I know the 'real radios' have and would like to see in the Uniden scanners.

The real radios, those used by Public Services all over, display the radio id (don't know if this is the correct term as I am not that familiar with all the radios out there) of the transmitting radio when someone transmits. (Those familiar with the Trunker / Etrunker / Unitrunker programs are fimiliar with this as those programs display these radio ids)

Is this something that we will ever see on a Uniden scanner ?

Maybe this can be a firmware update ?

Just a thought

Then people would want to text tag those and it would use up a lot of memory - even to the point that you can only get one system in the radio. Then, people would complain about that.

Not that I'm opposed to the idea...

Actually if you catch the radio id in the I-Call mode, you can alpha tag it so it will display the way you want it to the next time it comes up.

I would love to see a trunker style display on a handheld. On a base you can just set up a computer running Trunker (or Unitrunker) for that type of display and have it displayed as decimal or hex (decimal, AFS for EDACS). Not real pratical for a palmtop linked to a scanner for display only or two scanner for audio output..

I agree .. this would be a great addition to the 246T / 396T. Maybe UPMAN will read this and consider it. I dont think that it would be a hard thing to do at all.

I can see it being such that when there is an actual transmission being received that the radio id is displayed, otherwise the radio will act as normal.

I can understand the initial comment about the alpha tagging of this info. It would really just use up some of the memory of the radio, just like anything else. A person would have to use this with caution as they would have to be sure they still allow themselves to add all their systems they want to.

This feature I dont think too many people have thought about, but it would be so so nice.
