What's everyone's preference for Federal monitoring?

At least for me, the GRE radios are somewhat better for searching the federal bands, in that it will detect analog tones or P25 NACs automatically. The Uniden radios make you choose between searching for tones or NACs.

I think the programming between the two can be easier for some than others. I think the programming on the Uniden radios is a little easier to do on the fly by hand than the GRE. The form factor of the 396XT radio is great for portability.

Both the GRE and the Uniden radios have their pluses and minuses...

Motorola XTS2500 and XTS5000, the prices even for the keypad programmable model of the 2500 is very reasonable as are the 5000's.

i have a pro-197 and a 1000 channel triple truck but its losen stuff cause everythings going too p25 in nw georgia ill have too look at investing ina 2nd one for mom she likes listening too stuff except polk co is all encryted and cant be decoed according too a well known programmer oh well ;/

If I had to choose between GRE/RadioShack or Uniden for Federal, I would go with GRE/RadioShack, because You don't have to choose between a Tone or NAC, it finds it for You.
Yes I have both.
