RS formerly back in your Granddaddy's days was the premier electronics and "radio" related gear retailer.... hence its name.....
But something called "high end retail electronics" and that demon known as "cellular phone service" invaded..... Thus they went from being the "in the know" about radio, to being the experts in A/V gear, then computers, now cellular.....
But lo and behold, the scanner hobbyist, that strange and misunderstood breed, refused to die and vanish peacefully.....
And thus they heard the loud crys of those that actually wanted the hobby to keep going....
So thier primary manufacturer, GRE, began cranking up the old dusty brains, and R&D realized,.. "Hey there is a market still after all....a lucrative one at that" and they began to make new breeds of scanner that we fed upon ravenously and screamed for "MORE!!!!!!!!!"....
The other actual maker of electronics wonders, and the sorta competitors of GRE.... Uniden also has been listening..... and also started making the new breeds....
And thus the once slowly dying hobby suddenly found a new life- and aren't we all happy about that? Thanks to great resources like this site.... there is a whole new generation of scannists out there.. and if we can keep the bug biting.. there will be MORE..... And thus feed the wallets of the GRE, and Uniden R&D guys and gals,... thus filling RS's shelves with new toys.....
Now if the HAM community was to be able to create the same growth potential in the RS markets as the scannists.... maybe RS can actually REEARN thier name....
Or it could all be luck.....
