I just picked up the cheapy Catalog #: 20-176 scanner antenna from RS. Wow
I wish I would have done this sooner.... I bought the antenna, 50ft of RG6 and a
F-type to PL239 adapter for 60$ and it was worth every penny,,

I just wanted to post my opinion.

BTW I am using it on a repaired pro-2055. "Display"

I have one of those on top of the garage. Works as good as anything.

I pick up about six counties well and a couple more adequately.

put it up higher, get better coax, and put in a lightning arrestor! otherwise its a good antenna... I really like them for AM - airband... theys great!

Great deal, the stores by me are asking $72.00 for antenna only.
How are you guys mounting this antenna? I was going to try to connect two 5' masts and use an eve or wall mount.

Other than the lightning arrestor if it ain't broke don't fix it. If and when it comes time for a new antenna, THEN redesign the installation IF there is a need. Why ruin a good thing?

Who cares? How YOU mount it is all that matters, we don't live in the house, you do.

Where the masts join is the weak spot, given the choice use a 10' mast with an eve mount. Wall mounts require longer masts because a good portion is alongside the wall between the mounts that must be far enough apart to avoid "lever action" from mangling the mounts when the wind blows. Too bad South River is no more, they made the strongest brackets I've ever seen and Rat Shack the weakest. BTW, heavy wall aluminium EMT is lighter and as strong as steel in this particular application. It comes in 10' threaded lengths but don't use the couplings, telescope and pin them if you're going to go high. If you're going to GET high stay on the ground. (;->)

How are you guys mounting this antenna?.

I have mine on a 2 peice mast. One 10' and one 5'. I basically have it stuck
in the ground with a peice of iron pound into the ground beside it and Fixed
to the mast. Works great,

Mine is mounted at the peak of my garage ('bout 40 feet). The antenna is U-clamped to a short piece of PVC which is clamped to an antenna mast wall mount bracket.

This is fairly light weight and a LOT stronger than it sounds.

I'm sure one of us could purchase one and ship it to you for less than $60.

I think radio 10-8 is thinking of the 20-043 for $72 dollars covers 25-1300 the 20-176 covers 108-1300 for about $25.00 dollars
