Radio Shack/GRE reps on this site?

Anyone from Radio Shack/GRE participate on this site like Mr. Paul Opitz does for Uniden. If I buy a Uniden (like the 246T that I did) I can ask a question in the appropriate forum and will most likely get a solid to the point response from Mr. Opitz. Is there someone dealing with radio shack scanners here to answer questions if I buy one from them?

We also have Gommert with Butel who actively participates and answers questions about his ARC software. And several dealers like Waltel who participate and answer questions. If radio shack doesn't have someone, that is a shame. I love having customer service like that you can get from Butel, Waltel, and Uniden. Thanks guys for your support!

The hard part for GRE would be is that they make them for RS. GRE could tell RS what everyone wants and they could build it but RS may not buy it.I do not think GRE would want to get stuck with all of the problems of all the warranty support like RS can. It would be nice if they did and could build 1 or 2 super GRE scanners one for digital and one for conventional with everything that evryone would want that can be done at this time.

I'd also guess that GRE is a much smaller company, and in fact Japanese with a USA branch. It's also just a guess that they don't have a huge number of employees in the US since they OEM for RS and don't sell direct.

Since this is in the Radio Shack Scanners forum, I wonder how you missed Don Starr on your list. This leads me to believe you don't have any of the eight GRE/RS scanners for which he wrote software. And for five of them, his software is free.

And if you think Uniden support is so great, why did they make a BC296/796D in less than a year after the BC250/785D hit the street. We 250/785D owners were screwed by Uniden, no upgrade offers or trade in allowance... nothing. Hence, I have both the Pro-96 and Pro-2096 instead with outstanding Starr software support.

BTW, what can your Mr. Opitz do for you regarding the 246T that the owners manual can't do?

I also commend Gommert for his software support, but Don participates not only here but on at least 8 Yahoo groups regarding all of his software products.

They may aslo be under contract NOT to discuss the RS products.

RS has lots of restrictions on their OEMs

Yes, I like Uniden products but I have absolutely nothing against RS/GRE scanners. I would love to have a Pro96, I just don't have the $$$.

I totally forgot got Mr. Star. Sorry. I don't have any Radio Shack scanners......yet. I am planning on purchasing one in the future.

I totally agree. I bought the 250D. Still have it in fact. I am thinking of selling it and getting the new Pro 2051 (I think it would make an excellent mobile scanner).

Mr Opitz has helped me many times in this forum and the BC246T yahoo group. He answers questions regarding future scanners and problems we have with current scanners regarding firmware updates and scanner bugs can be reported directly to him. Also he takes our suggestions and comments and presents the feasible ones to the next scanner (or at least there is some discussion on the ideas, some he says could work, some he says can't). Mr. Opitz is a valuble contributer to this site and we are lucky that he cares enough to participate. As we are lucky that all the others participate.
