Radio Shack Pro-106 out of the box!

How does the Pro-106 scanner come setup/programmed from Radio Shack. I have done a reset on mine and it boots up to NEW EDIT GLOB! If I press SEARCH, it scans a pretty extensive list, I can also monitor railroad, aircraft, Public Safety. Any help on the initial setup will be appreciated. I called Radio Shack, and spoke with 4 associates at 4 different stores, they all say when the radio is sold, they don't program the radio for your area, you must do that yourself.

It comes preloaded with what are now very much outdated scan lists. You must program the radio itself. Depending on what you want to listen to, you can program the radio by hand or with third-party software (all have 30-day free trials) and the RS cable. Look at the wiki and search the message threads; there are hundreds of Q&A here on RR. HTH.

Thanks trsundstrom, is the programming kit offered by RS worth purchasing, to make configuring less confusing?

While there are a few software programs to help you program your scanner I strongly suggest ARC 500 by Butel. It is an easy to use program.
