What exactly do you need help with, learning how to program the scanner or what frequencies to monitor? We can help you with either of these but we need more input. Programming manually or with software? Manually isn't difficult but can be very tedious.
I'd reccomend buying the programming cable. You can get it for 15 or 20 bucks at Radioshack, or even find a cheaper deal off ebay.
Download a free trial of any one of the three programming software options available for the model, which can be found on this webste, in the Wiki, when you search for the 197.

Programming by hand IS possible, but it gets complicated for most people if you are not already familiar with your digital trunktracker. The method I describes saves alot of time and stress, and makes it easier to update and change things as time progresses.
