I scored a Radio Shack Pro-2045 off of ebay for $40. The backlight does not seem to work. I noticed the ac adapter I have is made by Uniden. Could that be the problem? Other than the backlight it is a really nice scanner.
Not an expert but the issue isn't likely related to the power supply. Bulbs are likely burned out. They can usually be replaced but are soldered in place. Google is your friend here

On your pro 2045 go to Glob settings & check to see if the light is turned way down or off, & just a suggestion smack your radio BUT not hard to see if there is a loose connection.
GLOB is a bunch of settings, push PGM then F3 ( GLOB ) then under the Radio Settings ( top) you will see COTRAST with a bunch of numbers, IF the numbers are set on #1 it's to low, use right arrow to move the numbers up, put it on #4 & then push SAVE, see if that brightens it up IF not then you have an issue with the bulb that lights up the back ground.

I have a Pro-2045 also with the light out. I don't see a F3 (GLOB) to push, am I missing something. I would like to try to see if it is in fact just the contrast turned down. Thanks for your help.
Don't bother looking for F3 and GLOB. I don't think it is on that scanner since it is an older model. Nothing in the owners manual indicate that this exists.
