Radio Shack Pro-2052 and Clarksville, TN

I REALLY need some help with this guys! I bought a Radio Shack Pro-2052 Dual Trunking scanner. For one, I'm having trouble getting frequencies online for the thing and also am VERY new at the scanner hobby and can't seem to learn how to program the trunked frequencies that I DO have into the thing the right way. Hi Cabindoor. As bad as I hate to inform you of this, Clarksville's trunking system is unmonitorable by modern trunking scanners. Clarksville uses an EDACS Provoice-An M/A Com-Tyco digital system that uses a proprietary vocoder for voice communications. It is this proprietary vocoder technology that's keeping scanner manufacturers like Radio Shack and Uniden from being able to monitor such systems. Now, I understand that there's some analog information on this system. But if you're like many of us hobbyist, "if we can hear Police and Fire, then what's the use".
Now if you're wanting more information about Clarksville's system, this site can provide you with some information throughout the Tennessee Radio Discussion forum or by finding Montgomery County in the RR Database section and highlighting Tennessee. This will take you to the Clarksville trunking info and conventional frequencies within the county.
I hope this helps and I apologize for this unfortunate situation. Maybe someone will eventually try and go around this vocoder technology by a backwards compatiable setup. That way, many hobbyist with M/A/ Com Tyco systems in there jurisdictions can rise up again. Then there's ESK. For more detail info on this, go to theTexas forum and read the post with San Antonio ESK Status FAQ. This info will provide you with some great information regarding this type of system.

EDACS

Mr. Suttles,

Thanks so much for your info. I'm learning more and more each day! As for the Clarksville PD freqs...The instruction booklet says that it will scan EDACS freqs, if that helps me or you any. I just bought this the other day and is pretty updated supposedly. If it's able to scan EDACS, would I be able to monitor Clarksville PD and FD? Thanks once again for your help.

I don't know much about EDACS, LTR, and such because here in Music City we have it good. Our system is Motorola Astro Digitaland it's pretty simple. But from what I gather is PRO-Voice is an advanced version of EDACS and whatever the MA-com is even scanners with EDACS capability can't monitor the PRO-Voice comms. I've heard this from several members that have EDACS scanners in towns with the PRO-Voice version. Memphis is one but i hear they are changing to Motorola Astro here soon. Maybe Clarksville will come around. Sorry.

Thanks so much for the insight. Guess I bought a hunk of junk until Clarksville comes around to lettin us hear 'em. Ain't much in the way of CONVENTIONAL frequencies for me to listen to around here since Clarksville decided to trunk their stuff. Dang. Thanks again for the info and no need to thank me for servin...I've been in 11 years and I LOVE MY JOB!

Anyone out there that has anymore info for me as I'm a dummy when it comes to Trunking, please email me if you can help me out. I have a trunking scanner that I only know how to program conventional freq's in. Could use some schoolin up!

clarksville is provoice digital and no scanner can pick them up only the analog talkgroups can be heard

I've heard from a few other's that the Radio Shack stores in Clarksville, particularly the one on Fort Campbell Blvd, claim that their scanners will track the EDACS ProVoice system. They know better but continue to sell the radios anyway.

There's always ham radio. 147.39, 147.0, 145.41, 146.58, and 146.925 are the most active in the Clarksville area. Otherwise... codes enforcement, parks & recreation, and the city street department are still convention. If you're interested, I can send you a list of these frequencies.

However, keep in mind; you can monitor these conventional frequencies as well as other conventional frequencies from surrounding counties with a much cheaper scanner. I'd take back the trunk tracker than Radio Shack sold you.

Montgomery County SO uses a system that cannot be trunk tracked by any scanner itself. They are using LTR Passport. Thier is a "workaround" to trunk track it, but not with just using a scanner by itself.

ANY conventional scanner can monitor a Passport LTR system....

Put ALL the repeaters in with NO delay.... its annoying with the data bursts every 2 or so seconds,.. but CAN be monitored this way.

To track an Passport LTR, you have to do a open and wire job on a scanner to make it an data slicer, then using LTRDump/LTRTrunk on a PC can track it this way.....

As for EDACS Provoice,.... Yes your scanner will track the system and display TG's.. but you will NOT be able to hear the digital Provoice part...

As for Shelby County,... they currently run an EDACS AEGIS type system, the AEGIS is used VERY RARELY and you can hear 90% of all comms in the clear....

As for Memphis,... they currently run a Motorola ASTRO VSELP type system.. there is NO scanner that can decode VSELP digital...

Memphis/ShelbyCo are upgrading to a wide area Motorola iether ASTRO (non VSELP) mixed mode *3600 kbps*, or ASTRO-25 pure digital *9600 kbps*. All agencies in Shelby County will be onboard this system, that includes SCSO, SCEOC, SCVFD's, MPD, FDM, public works, transit systems,....

Ok, I'm an old scanner listener but new at digital/trunking. What frequencies should I download to listen to Montgomery County SO? I have the RR interface for my Pro-197 and downloaded a lot of what I saw for Montgomery Co. but didn't hear anything. Any suggestions?
