Does the 2055 do PL / DPL?
Am I being too simplistic to think that the 2055 is basically the 2096 minus digital?

I'm sure that the 2055 does PL / DPL. From the descriptions others have given, it sure does sound like it's a conventional version of the digital 2096.
Unfortunately Radio Shack has not put the 2055 manual on their web site yet. If you go to http://www.starrsoft.com/ you can download programming software that will give you a good idea of how the unit is set up.

The PRO-2055 added LTR trunking, and 16 character alpha display instead of 12 in the 2096. It also has the close-call feature and the skywarn feature. No digital though...
The 2096 has digital but none of the above features...
And Yes, both radios have PL/DPL support...
I have both of them and they are excellent.
