I just purchased a used pro 2096 and when I turn it on the screen reads DSP LOADING, BOOT: F1.0. I followed the instructions in the manual and no functions seem to work. I tried reseting and that didn't help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The original owner assured me it worked so I'm hoping I'm just missing something. Thank you.

Hi-

Welcome to the forums... I hope we can help you.

You mentioned that you reset the scanner. Was that with a paper clip in the tiny hole in the back of the unit? You have to try resetting the unit while the scanner is ON... not while it's off.

If that doesn't clear it up, you might have to Re-Initialize the unit:

1. Turn the unit on.
2. When you see the DSP Boot message hit the number 0
3. The unit will ask if you want to run tests, instead hit the number 1
4. The unit will warn that you will be erasing the memory
5. Press Enter to confirm you want to do the re-initialization
6. Do not turn the unit off until you see: M000 and Bank 0 Ch 00 on the display

Hope this helps, and your 2096 runs for you.

Yes I tried resetting via the little hole in the back with no success while the unit was on. when I do that the unit makes a sound like the squelch is open and the display goes dark. As soon as I take the paper clip out the display lights up and the unit goes quiet. I also tried to re-initialize per your instructions and nothing at all happens, the display stays on DSP LOADING, BOOT: F10. Any other ideas?

Sorry to hear that didn't work... I guess what would concern me is that you're not even getting past the "DSP Loading" screen to the "Welcome to Digital..." screen.

As a last ditch effort, you might try to find someone in your area who has a working 2096, and see if you can try cloning it--but that is a reach. Your best bet may be to see if you can take it to a Radio Shack store to get it factory-fixed... I actually did this for one of my 2096s and it came back fixed as well as sporting a newer CPU.

Wish I had better advice for you.

Thanks for your help and I think I will run it to a radio shack store. Thanks again.
