thanks trp2525 but I already updated the DSP to 3.1 and stated that I didn't backup the files before, so all the files are now the 3.1 version. If anyone has a backup of the CONFIG__bin file for DSP 3.0, I would appreciate it if you can upload them somewhere. Thanks!

Edit: for clarification, when I updated the DSP to 3.1 thru the EZ-Scan program, the CONFIG__bin file was also updated. It was my mistake that I didn't back up those files before the upgrade.

I don't think it's the DSP. In my PSR-800 I missed a lot of transmissions on 4.6 downgraded back to 4.5 to fix that issue

I was able to find the 3.0 version of the DSP and downgraded. Now I'm picking up all P25 traffic that it was missing and is picking up everything that my TRX-1 is receiving. However, it still seems to miss some traffic on CAP+ systems, so I might still try the downgrade of the CPU to 4.5.

Of course, all of this is just temporary until I save enough money to officially upgrade it thru Whistler.

I agree. I was missing transmissions with 4.6 too. DSP didn't seem to make any difference.

Hello,

I was really glad when Whistler added Tune Mode as it was a very useful feature of my PSR-600. It was only useful on my TRX-2 as a full keypad was needed for frequency entry.

I noticed the May 2017 firmware release added a "Freq" item to the Tune settings menu. I looked at this on my TRX-2 and there is now a method to enter a Tune frequency through the Tune settings menu. This is great as it means Tune is now useful on models without the full keypad. Yet another reason for me to send in my Pro-668 for upgrade to a WS-1080.

The latest instruction to install firmware ver 4.5 or 4.6 Read these, then source everything needed and install all software and drivers for the version of firmware you're installing. THEN RE-READ these instructions a second and/or third time BEFORE you attempt to install the firmware as most issues are caused by people NOT following these instructions step by step. DO not skip over a step, as they should be done in order.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have trouble when asking for help list what Operating system your using, if your scanner is on Radio Shack firmware or Whistler and whether or not you tried a new usb cable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that this is a work in progress and with each firmware update the procedure and tools used can change.

The current procedure to change firmware....

The following assumes you already have installed either the pro-668/psr-800/pro-18 drivers and HAVE THEM WORKING. You can check by trying to set the clock via iscan. If you can't set the clock then the driver is either not installed or corrupt. YOU cannot proceed to do the upgrade until this is fixed. To fix it uninstall and delete then reinstall the comport driver.

NEXT: You MUST have sourced the following: firmware ws1080 ver 4.5 (ask someone to send it to you), The GREFWTOOL ver 0.2.0.3 (google GREFWtool) downloaded and installed. The latest version of ezscan software for the WS1080 (FREE from whistler via whistlergroup.com) on your computer and you have archived your data and have the ws1080 driver.

If you want to update to firmware version 4.6, you must FIRST source (do not download via grefwtool or ezscan) firmware WS1080e_U4.6 bin with a file size of (368340 bytes). DO NOT use the file that is (524292 bytes) as it will not install. Both files have the same name so pay attention to the size of the file.

For windows 7 and above you MUST get GREFWtool 0.3.0.4. (google it),

For windows xp you MUST USE Grefwtool ver Version 0.3.1.5 When the tool installs you can rename it to GREFWTOOL Ver 3 otherwise you must delete the earlier version making more work if you want fall back to firmware ver 4,5 . By renaming, both tools will be on your computer.

1) Start the appropriate GREFwTool for your firmware version.

2) Take the batteries out of your scanner and unplug it.

3) Press and hold the Menu button while inserting the USB cable (one end already plugged into the computer).

4) Once plugged in, let go of the Menu button. Wait for the beep from your computer. It could take 60 seconds.

5) In GREFwTool go to Settings and press Rescan. The COM port should be filled in.

5a) Also under settings: For Scanner Type use the pull down to select the scanner you are using (i.e. Pro-668).

5b) For Firmware use the pull down to select what you want the scanner to become (WS1080)

DO NOT Download the most current firmware via the tool as it won’t install.

6) Select the Connect To Scanner icon

7) Select the Update Firmware in Scanner icon in GREFwtool. Then locate and Select firmware version you want. It will install and you should see a percentage of completion bar. The scanner will shut down when done.

8) Install the ws1080 driver.

9) Go into EZScan (not iScan) do the DSP Update, library updates and/or restore from archive or transfer database if needed. via the cable or card reader

10) Turn your scanner on, if it shows the Whistler logo, loads fine and works, put the batteries in and enjoy the fruit of Eric's and others work!!!
Wackyracer could you send me the binary file for version 4.6?, Only appears version 4.7 and I guess I do not have the correct binary file for version 4.6.

I'm curious about something. From what I've read the 1080 does not to Nexedge at all yet in the 4.7 release notes posted it said something about fixing something with Nexedge decoding I believe it was.

Something to do with Nexedge anyway.

So does the 1080 do Nexedge? Which would mean upgrading the 668 would give it Nexedge capability or is it already there in 4.6 etc.?

Only the TRX's do NXDN (NEXEDGE) none of the others do.

Correct, this is something Eric covered several times in these forum threads; the issue is not enough memory space in the older radios (PSR800, Pro668, etc) to accept the additional programming needed to do NXDN as well as everything else.

Personally I'm really grateful my Pro1080 (hacked Pro668) does as much as it does; the massive improvement in P25 decoding alone would have been worthwhile, but to have added functionality and DMR as well? Huge.

That being said, I'm probably going to get the official Whistler factory upgrade anyway; the continued manufacturer support alone makes it worthwhile.

Yes I am aware of that, thank you. The issue was I saw a post about an update and it said the update fixed an NXDN issue.

My question was if it doesn't get NXDN then what is being fixed. An issue being fixed would indicate that it does it and there was a problem needing addressing.

I can't find the 4.7 update thread I was thinking of and the thread I did find seems to cover all scanners including the 1080 and TRX radios which doesn't make sense to me as I wouldn't think the same update would apply across the board.

Oh well, not a big deal, thanks for the replies.

I believe they are using the same firmware version number across all of their more recent models (1080, 1088, 1098, TRX-1, TRX-2, etc) so when you look at the release notes, it may include features that are only on some models and not others.

Hello, I have the firmware version 4.5 (ws1080) in pro668 again, but it has version 3.1 of the DSP. Who can help me how should I go back to DSP version 3.0? How do I delete the 3.1 and return to the 3.0 DSP?
Thanks in advance for the help

Why do you need to go back to 3.0? 4.5 and 3.1 work perfectly on my 668.
