I used the original WS1080 microSD with EZ Scan v1.09 Bld 305. Formatted the microSD card for use with DSP 1.3 (Library Database 371) but cannot rollback from CPU 4.6 using any version of GREFwTool to get to CPU WS1080e_4.5.bin or WS1080e_3.8.bin

Is there any procedure to rollback the firmware to PRO668e_U2.4.bin then retry WS_1080e_4.5.bin?

DMR is still broken with CPU 4.6 DSP 1.3

From what I personally experienced after updating my "unofficial" PRO-668 to DSP 3.1, I believe there is no way to change the CPU firmware to ANYTHING ELSE other than what you had in the scanner (in your case CPU 4.6) prior to loading the latest/current version of DSP 3.1. None of Eric's tool versions worked for me after loading DSP 3.1.

I can't say with 100% certainty but I believe your only way to get DMR functionality back in your radio at this time will be to send it to Whistler for the official upgrade. If you do send it in, at least you will always be able to load the very latest versions of the PC Application, CPU Firmware and DSP Firmware and not have to worry about any issues like you are experiencing now.

I agree because no CPU changes can be made now with any version of Eric's program. Once you click update firmware it shuts the RS668 OFF with the error message - Timeout while updating scanner. Please reset scanner and try again. > Disconnected from COM.x > CPU Update Error.

I now believe EZ Scan v2.24 (not so much DSP 3.1) broke DMR on the RS668 with the modified W1080 CPU 4.6 installed and the ability to restore any older CPU versions using GREFwTool.

It was a nice experiment by Eric until the official upgrade process from Whistler which is well worth the $60.

The W1080 continues to work fine until its worth upgrading to a TRX-1 for DMR

Can't install any firmware. I even did a fresh 1080 EZScan install on a windows 7 machine that never had EZScan installed before. I've tried all versions of Eric's tool, tried to update CPU firmware through EZScan and the stand alone updater.

4.6 firmware was already installed with DSP 3.0 when I upgraded DSP to 3.1 by accident. Prior to that DMR/TRBO worked. I don't have a copy of the 3.0 config_bin file.

Try assigning the scanner a comport, DO NOT let ezscan assign it as it may conflicting with another device.. google how to do it for your OS.

Well I have two questions,1. Has anyone gotten their scanner back from Whistler? 2. Have they noticed any changes in reception or operations?

I sent my Pro-668 (with Erics hack) to Whistler only to receive an e-mail back that they could not upgrade because the USB port was not working. Very confusing because I update my Library every week thru that connection.and according to e-mail not many options. Also anyone having this issue with Whistler?

You're the first I've seen this from. What were the offered options?

It does state on the Whistler website "To be eligible for this upgrade, your scanner must be in good working condition and free of any issues physically, electrically or otherwise that may keep us from updating your scanner."

Perhaps your USB port was not fully functional even though you were able to update the Library Database. The Library Database is stored on the SD card but what Whistler has to access to do the upgrade is actually stored in memory that is actually in the scanner. (That's why Whistler told us we could remove the SD card from the scanner before shipping it in.) Possibly those 2 processes involve 2 different connection pathways through the USB connection and the connection pathway they need to access/use is not working.

Of course there is also the remote possibility that the USB connection was physically damaged during shipping/handling on its trip to Whistler. That's probably a long shot as the USB port is recessed into the scanner and somewhat protected but I guess anything is possible if your package was really manhandled during transit.

How long ago did you download DSP 3.1 from the Whistler update server using EZScan? Was it right after it was released back in May?

Also what version of the EZScan PC Application software are you running on your computer? Did you stay with version 2.19 or have you updated that also?

It was a while after it came out but not that long. I waited until I saw feedback here in the forums as to whether or not it was compatible with Eric's stuff.

Feedback said it was fine and I updated it.

I have version 2.22 software.
Had 3.1 and 4.6 running in both scanners. The one scanner in my truck was being a pain for some reason. Some days worked great and others it acted like there was nothing in it and was dead. I'd take the card in and reflash it and it'd work for a while then suddenly nothing.

Anyway last week brought it in and using Eric's 3.15 tool downgraded the firmware from 4.6 back to 4.5 and its working great again still using 3.1.

Meanwhile the one running 24/7 in the house is doing fine on 3.1 and 4.6

One of those mysteries in life I guess.

The problem I had was after downgrading the scanner wouldn't start and gave me an error code

I had to bring it back in, delete the config.bin entirely from the SD card and then reflash everything to the SD card.

After that it worked great again.

I can't imagine why you're having difficulty with it unless you have went beyond what everyone said was okay or are not doing something correctly. There is a very precise set of steps you have to use for it to work

Whistler released new updates for their SD scanners last Friday (June 30th) that included new PC Application versions, CPU Firmware versions and a new Control Demo version. Although DSP 3.1 was not re-numbered to a new version number at that time, I suspect that a change may have been made to DSP 3.1 to do a "check" to make sure it was installing to a genuine WS1080 or officially upgraded PRO-18/PRO-668/PSR-800. If that check was not successful, I believe DMR functionality was then disabled. It also did something that then made all versions of Eric's tool unable to change the CPU firmware back and forth.

My suspicions are just that but are based on what I personally experienced and what 3 other posters (Fasteddy2, carbonfiber and sibbley) here on RR have also confirmed. It appears that the original DSP 3.1 (which was released on May 22nd) initially worked OK with scanners that had been updated using Eric's tool but that apparently is no longer the case. Because all of the other latest updates were released on June 30th I believe that is when the change may have occurred. I can confirm that I downloaded DSP 3.1 on July 2nd and sibbley posted that he downloaded it on June 30th and we both experienced the same issues afterwards. YMMV

Moral of the story...

Do NOT update your scanner to DSP 3.1 if you want to keep the unofficial version of DMR working in your 668.

If you do, you WILL lose DMR and have to send it I'm to Whistler for the official upgrade. Costing you $60 and time lost with your toy.

I will also say that my PSR-800 with 4.6 firmware and DSP 3.0 worked fine with Eric's tools on June 28. I replaced firmware 4.5 with 4.6 on June 28 and had no trouble what so ever. Then on June 30, I accidentally installed DSP 3.1 and no DMR since. Nor can I now use any version of Eric's tools to go back to 4.5 or 3.8 firmware. I also believe something happened on June 30 with the Whistler updates.

My 800 works fine on P25 though so I'm just inclined to leave it that way. I already have 2 1080's and a TRX 1 & TRX 2.

I made the mistake of upgrading my Pro668 to DSP 3.1 before reading this but I'll have to say, I am still receiving DMR. I didn't notice because where I live there is a lack of DMR. While traveling to Cleveland, Oh. I found a few DMR sites that were in fact working with CPU 4.5 and DSP 3.1. I checked everything again just to make sure. P25 phase I and II are working as well.
