I find your above comment interesting, as in this case you are the definition of "move" and if I'm correct made one or two "countermoves". Seems to me you're pretty deep in the rabbit hole and if someone's radio has been damaged, you are partly responsible.
Dude!!! I don't know if you are from California or what, but you are smoking wayyyyy to much of that legal stuff they serve over there.
Eric is and should not be liable for any damages that the user did on his own accord. At NO time did he represent himself as a RS or Whistler representative or agent.
Eric posted very "Specific Instructions" on how to do it, what works and what doesn't work. I followed his ADVICE Or suggestions on what worked for HIM and proceeded at my own risk. I knew from the get go that any harm to my scanner is due to MY error. That being a power outage during procedure, computer problems, me unplugging the scanner while the update is happening. That's a risk I determined to be acceptable. A perfect example is how we ROOT our Android devices, Jailbreak the iPhones. Another example that I can bring up for those that don't understand what above means, Chirp programming software for amateur radios. If you use Chirp like most of us do. You can't expect to blame the developers of such software as you shouldn't of been using it or any third party software besides that of the manufacturers programming software. But those of us that use the software for the main purpose is that "It WORKS" better then the manufacturers software. There's always an unknown factor. Blaming him or anyone that gives us these tools is not the person that needs to be blamed. Look in the mirror and own it, you messed up for whatever reason. 3.5 worked for me and I stayed on it. I'm not going to keep pressing the update button when I know I'm not supposed to update it in the future. If I want future updates, then I'll pay for the official version. For my purposes, I am EXTREMELY happy with this tool. I know many people are. Just read the forums and FB for yourself.
There are ALOT of people in this forum and on FB that are computer illiterate. Those people are the ones that should NOT be messing around with tools on the computer that are considered for people that can ACTUALLY read, follow directions and can proficiently Google anything. A person that has a flip phone for cell phone or is stuck with using windows xp as there primary OS has no reason to being "Experimenting" with tools like this.
Long story short, people like you are the ones that should ALWAYS wait for official updates and use official software from whatever companies. And if no updates are available, then buy a newer model. Thanks to Eric, Whistler finally decided to take on the RS 668 and give it life again by extending support to it. Because of him we SHOULD ALL BE THANKFUL for his dedication and time involved with the project.
PS.. I'm beating a dead horse already. But I truly hope that people who blame him for this tool. Should NOT even bother with tinkering the MD 380 and installing MD 380 tools on your radio. Cause I'm sure you'll also blame Travis and the others for forcing you to do something that's "unofficially supported" by the manufacturers.
