Sometimes when im listing to the apco-25 digital i will refer to this as when central keys up or a car sometimes the scanner sounds like the squelch is opening then i will here them talk about half way thru the the person talking. I updated the scanner with the new firmware update and seemed to do it more often so i put it back to the orginal. Do others people scanners do this or is it just the apco-25 digital itself. and i know that the scanner is not to close to the tower because i live about 7 miles from the tower.

Thanks and any input would be great.

I am also experiencing this problem. It’s like the scanner did not encode the signal right and you hear a bunch of 1010100101001000110's; this continues until the scanner correct its self and you start hearing the conversation.

yeah im glad im not alone. I its like what you said not decoding it. Yeah cuz when i did the firm where upgrade or whatever that upgrade is version 1.2 to 1.3 it got worse so i keep the orginal 1.2 version. well i guess that its just not decoding it sometimes like other electronics and no only that sometimes in the pd cars this happens becasue the disp says so maybe its just the apco 25 itself. alright thanks for coming back.

I have the same problem with both my pro-96's on three different systems (all apco-25).
I hear the control channel disel sound for a second or two, then the radios start to decode
the signal part way into the conversation. And its always one radio or the other, almost
never is it both at the same time. Its got me stumped.

Just another reason i'm buying the 996T ;)

Plus i'm in Illinois and the system that is going to start up here has some 700Mhz and the 96 or the 2096 DO NOT trunk that frequency range.

KC8,One of the main reasons for the 996 is the fact that Illinois is getting close to completing the STARCOM21 system and they will be using some 700Mhz APCO25 which the RS scanners do not get :)

I don't think either brand scanner is perfect. With Uniden you hear the machine gun sound and sometimes the squelch sound.
