I have a Pro-96 scanner and I have the startsoft.com programming. I cannot seem to up load what I program in Win 96 to the scanner. (pick the freq. save to .cvs, but nothing uploads) Any suggestions?

Win 96 is a very easy program to operate and maintain.

Win 96 will not read the CVS files from RR - for any program to read a CSV file that file must be in the format it wants- see Don S responce to this question - it has been asked many times and the answer is always win96 will not read a RR csv file - if you want to download data from the data base to win96 use the web import feature in win96.GreatLakes said:

Make sure in the configuration the comm port is set to the same port the computer assigned the USB->serial interface. You can find this looking at the ports under device manager.

I realize that. From the original poster's comment above, I thought this was how he was attempting to load the scanner. Maybe he was thinking saving it to a csv was how you load the scanner. He doesn't say he's trying to load a csv file, he says:
"I cannot seem to up load what I program in Win 96 to the scanner."

I did exactly what you suggested but nothing seems to be loading on the scanner. The scanners screen *CLONE MODE* up to send remove cable to Exit.
I see the software writing to scanner, but nothing..
I really am somewhat computer savy but this is frustrating to me. Is there something I need to do to the scanner to receive the upload?

The only thing with the scanner is it must be turned on and in the scan mode. When I do an upload the scanner says CLONE MODE Receiving, what cable are you using?Nordman said:

I've never used the USB cable so I can't say how it works, I use 4 serial ports for all my scanners.Nordman said:

The basics
Sorry for asking this but when you plugged in the cable for the first time did it say new hardware found? Did you go thru installing the driver for the cable? Did you look under ports in device manager and see what port it assigned the USB serial port? Yours may be different but it assigns it comm port 6 on my computer. This should match the comm port under Configuration\Serial port in the software. You should see some LEDs flashing in the orange box on the cable when it's transmitting to the scanner. I also think you need to use the little 3in cable that came with the package.

What version of Windows are you running? Have you kept it updated? Does your computer have USB-1.*, or 2?
You mention trying to save to a .csv file?
So are you trying to upload frequencies/talkgroups that you have put into (or downloaded from the Radioreference database) a Win96 "channels" tab sheet, or is your sheet blank?

I appreciate all this assistance. In reference to the cvs file. I figured out via the emails that this makes no difference. I am to down load the information from the web. I think I may have an issue with the USB / Serial ports. I do have the 3 inch cable attached but have not looked at any lights on the cable. As far as USB 1 or 2 I do not know. (guess I am not so computer savy) Windows XP is up to date on both computers I have tried.
Can I delete all I have done and try again? I tried to so do but the disk I purchased at radio shack does not seem to allow me to re-install, it only has the un-install .exe file.
Could it be the scanner is locked in a mode that will not allow downloads or perhaps a scanner that has an issue with downloading.
I truley appreciate the help and am trying all that is giving.
