I have a Pro 96 Scanner that's locked in clone mode. Is there anyone that can tell me how to get it out of clone mode, so I can use my Win96 Program? I reset it to factory default, and that didn't do it. Can someone help please? Thanks!

Reset?

Just reread your message... some I'm editting it.

Have you tried resetting it and initializing it? Turn the scanner on, and just use a straightened paperclip in the reset hole, located above and to the right of the external power jack. A reset doesn't erase the memory like initializing does. Then I would try to re-initialize it again:

1. turn on
2. push 0 when you see the welcome message
3. unit should re-initialize to factory settings, and all programming is lost.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

I was trying to edit my post, but decided to give up, since I'm so slow...

Did you reset with the paperclip and also re-intialize--where you hit 0 during the welcome screen, then hit 1 when you get the "system tests" message, then hit enter when you see the "factory init" message?

What does the unit say in the display?

You could try a firmware update and see if that resets it to normal operation. Won't hurt since it is locked in clone mode anyway.
Hope you get it working.

Just a thought, maybe something broke, or is not making contact inside the PC/IF jack. You know when you plug the cable in it automaticly goes to clone mode, maybe it still thinks something is plugged in.

I am thinking the same thing. The scanner thinks you have a clone cable plugged in. If you have a programming/cloning cable I would try plugging it in and out a few times to see if it goes back to normal. Some people have had the same type if issues with headphone jacks getting stuck with no sound from the speaker when you unplug your headphones.

I even tried plugging it in and out a few times, and that did'nt work either. I was thinking the same thing, that the plug in jack was thinking something was still plugged in it, until I was able to upgrade the firmware. I appreciate everyone help. Merry Christmas to all of you all.

Likely so. Could be the spring at point of arrow.

Canned air?

How about a few shots of compressed air into the PC/IF hole... doubt it could hurt anything.

Merry Christmas--sorry about your scanner.

Merry Christmas. But updating the firmware is with the cable plugged in, correct? After you updated, and you unplugged the cable did it go back to normal or did it still stay in clone mode? That spot that fmon is pointing out in the diagram is what we are talking about, if that contact is not closing when you unplug the cable it will not return to the scanning mode. You would still be able to update firmware, program it with the cable etc. but that is with the cable in.

Assuming the below schematic is correct, plug in a tip/sleeve plug (or cable with a tip/sleeve plug on one end) and short the tip to the sleeve ( unscrew and remove the insulated cover first) and see if there is a state change, ie see if the "clone" display goes out. If it does, apparently there is a jack problem. If that is the case, you could run the scanner with a "shorting plug" in the jack temporarily. There is another possibility that the ground contact is no longer "ground" but first things first.

Good news everyone: The solution to the problem was my version of Win96 was outdated. So I upgraded to the latest version, and that did the trick. Once again, I appreciate everyone's expertise! Happy Newyear to everyone!!!!!!!
