I have a new 106 and 197 - comparing the two, the 106 has a flaw
that needs fixed. It's one of those not-obvious 'it only happens at certain times' things
that I fear won't show itself when the tech works on it.

I dread having this thing go back and forth multiple times without being fixed.
I'd just rather have a replacement. It's only a 1 1/2 months old and was bad from
the start - I just wasn't sure until I got my new 197 today and compared them.

Any tips from RS employees or those who've gone thru this to get a replacement
instead of going thru some nightmare repair ordeal?

Whats wrong with your unit? I had a problem with my initial one with the battery cradle not working. It only worked with ac/dc power. I had my receipt and they echanged it no questions!! You should demand a repalcement and buy the extra warranty as I did.

It's within the 1-yr warranty - beyond the 30-day return time. Their warranty says
it's up to them whether to repair or replace.

It has a couple of problems. It has trouble decoding CTCSS/DCS tones on certain
users, and it'll stop on some conv channels even tho it isn't breaking squelch even
with no audio whatsoever. If I increase the squelch it scans again.
