Searching around I've read that there will only be 70 stores and some franchises still open. This doesn't make any sense, however if true does anyone have a list of stores that are remaining open(for now)?

There are plenty on there overcharging for the antennas too. Over $30 in some cases, which is a rip-off. Considering the same antenna is available under the Remtronix name at Universal Radio for $22 plus shipping, and at ScannerMaster and Bearcat Warehouse for about $25 plus shipping. Those buying the RS 800s for a very reduced price during this clear out would do better to sell them a little below normal market value and still make some money off them. Its not like they will ever be a get rich item anyway, given their low intrinsic market value.

I wasn't aware that anything would be left. Agree it makes little sense that they would sell out stores to the walls at very low prices rather than transfer stock to set up a few remaining stores. I don't see a plan like that insuring any long term survival. They had ceased to be of significant value to the hobbyist some time ago, and they never were competitive in the cell phone market. Apparently they had a vision of what the future should be, but equally apparent - they were wrong.

FYI, I was incorrect, I have once again found the website active. They must have simply been down because I couldn't even find the host to ping them earlier. But they are back now.

I browsed my local store here in HI that is closing, and even at the claimed "90%" off, a lot of stuff is still overpriced. Since there are very few places here to get electronics and accessories, I think they are still jacking up the prices before applying the discount to make people think it's a good deal. Sad.

That's unfortunate. Jacking prices before applying a sale discount is certainly not a new practice, and something that many stores have done in the past, even if they weren't in close-out. I think some will actually take the discount off the MSRP rather than what they would normally sell an item for, thus reducing the impact to their bottom line. There are many methods employed in the retail market to make customers think they are getting a better deal than they truly are. The advice "caveat emptor" is certainly still applicable.

On another board, it was posted that the stores will be in MA, NY, PA, NJ, TX, and maybe OK. I visited one of the "Elite 70" in NY, as they're apparently called, just yesterday. They are very well stocked with very little empty shelf or peg space. (Sorry, no scanners!) There is no closing or fixture sale signage anywhere, yet merch is discounted up to 90%. They will be the last store in the Capital Region of NY.

The Radius search of my Zip code , still shows many stores here in New England Open

I would suspect that list of open stores to be in need of updating, especially considering the large number that were scheduled to close today. One such store I drove by yesterday, indicated that yesterday was the last scheduled sales day. They'd be cleaning out and closing up today.

Talking to my local RS manager, he got another month reprieve.
Now talking June, as he keeps getting Stock from the Warehouse.

Has anyone seen a list of what stores might be left open ??

Another press release, but no mention of specifics as far as what stores will remain.

The store locator is likely not accurately reflecting what is open. I still shows many open in Virginia, which I highly doubt. I think we will have to give them some time to get their website updated to the point where it may be indicative of the true status.

It had been functioning fine, as others have closed and are no longer listed
Wondering if all those for MA/RI/NH that I searched are now part of the June closings

I can't really vet how many are open in Virginia as I am out of town. But it would seem in our case that there are more listed as open than I would expect. But based on the one post it seemed the preponderance of those that are to stay open after this past weekend were in the northeast.

I emailed radio shack and got a watered down response saying they aren't sure which they are keeping open as of yet.

If this is a chapter 10 bankruptcy the answer is none. Doesn't matter what anyone says.

If it's chapter 11, then the only likely ones that will continue are franchise stores. Can't believe RS themselves will go thru another reorganization only 2 years from the last one. Selling off all the inventory also suggests no c on any stores, but this is one weird one.

Really Radio Shack on their website is still selling PRO 668's on two left for 399.99 each. Are you kidding!

RadioShack deserves everything they're getting. They couldn't have destroyed their business better if they tried! Looking at it from the inside, it appeared that they were doing everything they could to wind up in this position. Someday, someone will write a book on how to bankrupt a company, and RadioShack will serve as the prime example.

Is it safe to say any remaining corporate stores are part of the "Elite 70?"
