Does anyone know if Radio Shack is coming out with a new digital scanner to compete with the the Uniden BCD396T?

i think the 396 is uniden trying to catch up with the Pro96/2096 by adding more memory and AGC.
I think you have a point there.

I would never settle for merely catching up with GRE...always raise the bar.

Progressive thinking like that explains why Uniden has and will continue it's strong market share .

RS vs Uniden

I listened to the design chief with Uniden interviewed on a radio show. He said one of his primary targets for the 396t is the EMT's, firemen, and public safety folks, particularly when they are off duty. With things like the fire tone, the size, etc, he said it is a great piece of equipment for that market.

I think both GRE and Uniden try to do that each time. I think the only one who wins with this is the scanner user, and that is a very good thing. I might even get a 396T. I like the tone out feature I would just like to know if it will work on our new radio system since the tones are not heard over the air unless you are in the station.
