Well, the 996xt price of $419 is enough to pay attention but not enough to run down and make the purchase. I guess it is safe to assume there are no other promotions or Friends/Family programs to push the price lower......Did I hear at one time they had a Visa card tie in where if you opened a Visa card with them you'd get X dollars off your purchase?

Answer: Open a RS credit card and get 10% off purchase. If the 996's are ever back in stock (as their shelves and pipeline are both dry), the raincheck and the 10% should workout.

They just pulled off a bait & switch on the 396XT, which was available briefly for $399.00 - then they changed it. I wouldn't waste any gas running anywhere. Everything is "buy it here - ship to store". That could mean wasted gasoline. These store fronts are a waste of Real Estate, even if they do keep the otherwise unemployable employed.

I have been in a Radio Shack twice in 10 years. Once to buy a 10' section of mast and once to (attempt to) buy contact cleaner. Luckily, a former RS Manager had the foresight to start up his own store locally about 15 years ago, which sells all of the gadgets, cables, adapters and components many of us ran to Radio Shack for.

What a tragedy for "The Shack".

Thanx for the first sentence Dave. Not sure what value the rest of the ramble offers.
