• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've pinged a few radio shops that offer "peak and tuning" -- but they only do it for the radios they sell .

I have an older cb that I like; but lately, I've been told that I'm drifting when on ssb -- so I wanted to get the thing tuned (no peaking/modulation-moding) and the clarifier unlocked...

Anyone have a suggestion for a good shop? (Prefer in Washington State, but not opposed to sending it further)

Most of the CB radios on the market today and also older Radios will Drift on SSB. Did you let the radio warm up for 1/2 hr. to see if it settled out? and is it off frequency after warm up or worse still drifting?. If you are dealing with a group of ham operators that hang out on CB you will not make them happy with that radio. Some of the newer radios like the Ranger 2950DX will be much better on sideband. But thats aprox 300.00 investment. If you get your ticket you can also use the ranger on ten meters. If you still wish to send that radio out you better tell them what you want the radio for and tape it to the top of the radio as a reminder. Posting here will get you more help on CB radio info.

Thanks grogan -- Not hams, but they do play in the 10 meter band.. I'm purely 11...The radio has (to me) been solid for 20+ years... Just recently I've been told it's happening -- and yes, warmed up.
I read a lot about the newer radios drifting horribly right out of hte box -- which keeps me from buying a new one -- that, and they seem more "bling" that substance these days. I have the ranger on my "wish list" -- but with the power & 10 meters, I kind of shy away. The Ranger 2950DX is 10/12 meter, with mod for 11 right? I guess if a shop is going to charge me $100 to tune my radio; it makes hte ranger more afforable then... (If I'm goin to spend 100 to tune my radio; a few sheckles more gets me a better radio)
Thanks for your thoughts.
