To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am looking at the Radioddity GD-55 Plus as a low cost weather proof UHF portable and noticed it is only up to 470mhz. Does anyone know if the radio can be programmed for RX out of band?

While anything I talk on is in the 450-460 range, there are a few 486mhz frequencies I monitor at times.

I know the TYT MD-390 covers up to 500mhz, but once you place a speaker mic on the radio it is no longer waterproof.

Suggestions and insights are appreciated.

Thanks

I strongly think the only thing that limits the frequency number is the GD-55 Plus internal UI and CPS.

So you can try a hex editor on a CodePlug file and then write it to the radio.

But beware, GD-55 Plus with code-plug may make the internal radio software misbehave and go into infinite loops, thereby bricking the radio. As there is no known code-plug reset the radio will stay that way.
And without any firmware or any working firmware tool made available for the GD-55 Plus on the vendors website, fixing it may be a pain.

I think the GD-55 Plus platform was designed to be dual-band select in software. Currently I am still waiting for Radioddity to stop re-sending me links to their websites download page and TYT to respond - as I am asking for firmware and flash tools and not CPS software for this exact platform and getting nowhere quickly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I think I am going to go with the Ailunce HD1 instead.

I am unsure about their practices, but having about 5 GD-55 Plus units here I just got a reply from
Radioddity on the GD-55 Plus unit.

Sorry, there is no Firmware for GD-55 Plus.

-- cut here --

I am asking them again nicely as it's very easy to brick their radios... Including GD-55 Plus which supports
dual timeslot allegedly as I operate on both HAM and i/G Bands. :-(

There is no Firmware, or no new firmware? If there is no Firmware, how does the radio operate????

Yes. Apparently there is no FIRMWARE for GD-55 Plus according to Radioddity support emails.
They have re-iterated again today - that there is no original firmware or firmware flash tool in their posession. that they can furnish me with period. so the GD-55 Plus/MD-398 is a ghosted unit. TYT never got back with me either about their HTs.

This is my theory and lest just call it that after the GD-55 non-plus got really bad reviews from the HAM crowd for not supporting two timeslots at 7K6FXE/D the the GD-55+ was birthed. Now given what I read on github with someone trying to reverse the GD-55 they had different key combos to press to send the radio into DFU-like mode over serial than I needed. Not sure if the moto-like waterproof connector supports USB.

My Current keys are
Lower and Upper pressed together and power on "RADIO TEST MODE"
Man Down and PTT pressed together and power on "SERIAL ARM PROGRAMMING MODE" at 57600 baud.
PTT and lower button during power-on - Some crazy radio squeeel and no power on boot tones.

While the GD-55 non plus unit key combinations were different.
In one thread here I found TYT-398 firmware published by someone however the FPRO tool and their BINS I believe would only be useful for a GD-55 and not a GD-55 Plus unit.

So yes the ORIGINAL factory firmware for a GD-55 Plus is like a unicorn".- I guess Radioddity just throws all the soft-bricked radios into the bin. Not sure, others have had better mileage than myself.

I cannot even being to thing who made the radio I know it carried a TYT-398G label and a Radioddity GD-55 Plus and there is grossly similar Woxung unit. However absent the OEM for the HT or co-operation from HT vendors. Yes GD-55 Plus original firmware reflash is currently not possible, unless someone finds a way to defeat the UART ARM program and download a .bin/.hex file for themselves from a working unit.
