To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I got a GD-77S a while back, and I never could figure out how to program it correctly. I would like to use it as a scanner for a few local places using DMR tier II. I have gotten it programmed (of course with TX disabled) and I see a green indicator telling me I'm receiving something but it's silent, volume halfway up. Am I missing something? I don't have any color code or privacy code in, and it's still not receiving.

Thanks.

You're going to be very disappointed using this radio as a scanner.

As well, the promiscous/monitor mode on the GD-77 requires the correct color code and timeslot. If you are not using a color code, that's your problem.

How would I program timeslot into the radio? I don't see a feature called "timeslot" I'll configure a monitor button now. I have 16 channels filled up with the same frequency and different color codes, and still nothing..

Make sure you are using the correct programming software. GD-77S V1.1.7

The software does show "Repeater Slot 1 or 2"
The software also shows "Color Code 0 thru 15" to choose from.
If you are still hearing nothing, I agree, communication may be scrambled which the radio will not decode.
You can use the GD-77S as a scanner however, your scan times will be slower then a regular scanner. Also, the stock antenna supplied with the radio not the best in the world. Consider buying something better.
Most DMR information for MN can be found HERE.
